US-based Evergreen Solar recently announced that it has signed a cooperation agreement with Wuhan-based Jaiwei Solar and Wuhan Donghu New Technology Development Zone Management Committee, in a bid to expand String Ribbon wafer production in Wuhan, China, the Nikkei Electronic Asia reported on May 5. Based on Evergreen Solar's existing facility in Wuhan, the wafer facility is expected to have an initially capacity of approximately 100MW and further increase to approximately 500MW by 2010. Should the terms of the agreement be finalized by both parties within the next 90 days as planned, the plant will begin production in the second quarter of 2010, according to the same report. Further details of the plan were not yet disclosed but the report revealed that the mass production timeline and production capacity would likely be determined in 2010.
